Equipment Recommendations

These are some of the brands and equipment I like to use.

Puzzle Toys

WestPaw Design makes top-notch food-based puzzle toys with a range of difficulties. In my opinion, the Toppl is the most versatile.

Tearribles are super cool pull-apart plush toys for dogs who enjoy ripping stuff up. Other plush puzzle toys are great for dogs that are gentle with their toys.

Snuffle mats are my favorite for giving my dog a good brain workout.

DIY puzzles can easily be made from cardboard boxes, paper bags, and plastic bottles.

*Remember to supervise play.

Calming Products

Like humans, dogs respond differently to calming products based on their individual physiologies. Be sure to speak with your vet before adding supplements.

I’ve partnered with Breedwise Pet Provisions to offer a discount to families with dogs who could benefit from the temporary calming effects of their chews. Ask me for info.

Other products that may be useful are Adaptil diffusers, SmartPetLove Snuggle Puppy Toy, noise machines, and Thundershirts.

Training Gear Basics

Treat Pouches: I prefer OllyDog because they have a magnetic closure, belt, and storage for a clicker. I use silicone pouches for slimy treats like hotdogs & cheese.

Leashes: I like 5-6ft leashes with a locking carabiner. It is also nice to have a leash with shock-absorbing stretch like Rok Strap Leashes for dogs working through pulling issues or reactivity. WilderDog makes climbing rope-style leashes which hold up well against leash chewers.

Harnesses: In my experience, I’ve found Ruffwear to be the most secure, meaning dogs are less likely to escape.

Head halters can also help while working through pulling issues. The NewTrix halter has a felt pad to protect your dog’s snout. Gentle Leaders are also very popular.

*Remember that no tool will teach your dog how to walk, but good training habits will.
